Watching Scooby-Doo with a notepad in hand is surprisingly thrilling especially when you're on the hunt for recipe inspiration for my new cookbook, Scooby-Doo and the Attack of the Scooby Snacks. Crabby crabby crab crab brûlée! Chocolate-covered sardines! A pot pie pizza with cherries and anchovies! I was determined to bring these wild ideas to life, and that cherry-anchovy pizza became one of my missions.

Anchovies are no stranger to pizza, and those little salty umami bombs love a tomato—so why not a cherry? I started with the classic flavors of puttanesca, swapping in cherries for tomatoes and boosting the balsamic to deepen the wine-like richness. A good dose of cracked black pepper, fresh basil, and a pinch of red pepper flake brought it all together. Then came the homemade pizza crust, layers of cheese, and spicy pepperoni. The result? A surprising little masterpiece. My brave family dove in, and it was belly rubs and tail wags all around!
